Depends on what transmission. You can always make something work. Depends if the automatic has a button you push, this button won't work for that. It also depends on the thread size of the shift arm in your transmission. If it's the same as the threads on this knob then you should be golden.

Could anyone by chance tell me if this will work as a replacement for a 91 Jeep XJ shifter?

It has STD and Metric thread inserts, not sure what thread size you have....They do cover almost all makes of shifters out there.
