"Failed Princesses Vol. 1" is a refreshing and new type of school-girl yuri manga. The plot follows two high school girls from different cliques, Fujishiro and Kurokawa, who become friends after Fujishiro's boyfriend dumps her and Kurokawa defends her. The art is cute and the story is sweet, although some reviewers note that there is not much overt yuri content in this first volume. The characters are well-drawn and likeable, although Fujishiro can be pushy and conceited. The relationship between Fujishiro and Kurokawa is based on appearances, which some reviewers find problematic, but overall the manga shows promise and has strong writing and beautiful art.
