Boyd's Chemi-clean can be used in both freshwater and saltwater tanks to treat red slime, cyanobacteria and other diseases. Although the manufacturer states that it does not contain Erythromycin Succinate, it is found to contain erythromycin cetyl sulfate. The directions say to use one level scoop per 10 gallons of aquarium water, and for smaller tanks like 3.5 gallons or 5 gallons, one can estimate 1/2 or 1/3 scoop. There is no expiry date mentioned on the box, but Boyd can be contacted to confirm its shelf life. It is safe for Zoanthids and Hammer corals. Adding oxygen to the tank is essential before dosing, or else it may lead to the loss of fish. After the required dosage and water replacement, chemi-clean provides long-lasting removal of cyanobacteria by using 1 teaspoon for maintenance every partial change of water.
