The Tales from the Perilous Realm by J.R.R. Tolkien is a must-have for any Tolkien super fan. The collection features fine short stories about characters in Middle Earth not mentioned in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It's illustrated by Alan Lee and includes several previously hard-to-find out-of-print works by Tolkien. The book itself is a handsome volume, although some readers noted that it has a glued binding rather than a sewn one. However, it still makes for a lovely addition to any collection. The collection of writings provides a different angle of Tolkien's imaginary world, with stories from "Roverandom" to the verse of "Tom Bombadil" and the insights of "Leaf by Niggle." Readers were pleased to find Tolkien's famous essay, "On Fairy-Stories," included as well. Overall, it's a relatively lightweight book with easy-to-read font and fantastic illustrations that bring the stories to life.
